A designer collaboration between Nicole Clarke and Marilena Baynes

This beautiful workers’ cottage in the eastern suburbs of Brisbane was the perfect collaboration between two interior design members of the IDA, combining a makeover with perfectly executed staging, and as a result the home sold before it hit the market for $125,000 over asking price!

This classic workers’ cottage home in inner city East Brisbane needed a facelift before selling. Surrounded by three other more modern properties, all on the market at the same time, the owners needed to capitalise on the emotional appeal that these original Queensland cottages hold. A makeover and thoughtful styling allowed this compact and dated home to once again shine and get noticed in a very busy and competitive market, landing a nice profit for the seller at sale time.

The owners engaged Marilena from Marilena Baynes Interior Design Studio to prepare the house for sale, including renovations to improve its appeal. As part of that process, Maz sought the services of fellow IDA member, Nicole Clark from The Style Game to work alongside her in getting this gorgeous home to market.

Nicole & Marilena worked together to tie the styling selections to the tone of the renovation work, which included sanded floors, new paint both internally and externally, and a new bathroom and laundry. The decision to make only minor changes to update the kitchen and lighting fixtures throughout, allowed for a decent budget to invest in full property styling.

With a fresh, new colour scheme, new bathroom and a full styling makeover, this cottage was lifted into a higher asking price bracket and in fact was sold during the first week on market, for $125K over the expected price.
