Founder of interior design studio Design & Co, Grainne Devlin is known for creating thoughtful, liveable interiors with heart. Here, she shares her journey, her design philosophy and what inspires her work.

Please tell us a bit more about you and your business.
I started my design career working for Ireland based design firm Unique Interiors, I completed a BA Honours Degree and continued to build my business acumen by working throughout Europe as General Manager for a large UK based airline.
I returned to my lifelong passion for interiors after relocating to Australia in 2009 to further study and work within the building and design industry. Founding Design & Co in 2015, I have built a portfolio of both residential and boutique commercial design spaces across Australia.
We pride ourselves on being an approachable design studio who love to work collaboratively with our clients. We strive to push anyone who works with us beyond what they could ever imagine for themselves, helping them discover their own aesthetic vision while supporting our clients throughout the life of their project.
Can you tell us about your ‘secret sauce’ when it comes to interior design?
Our goal is to create a liveable space, well designed for you and your lifestyle which is genuinely unique and has a heart with a touch of the unexpected.

What do you enjoy most about being an interior designer?
My favourite part of being an interior designer is being able to create spaces which really add value to how our clients live within their space.
Creating functional spaces which also look beautiful and hearing clients saying “I never would have thought of that” is my ultimate goal!
Where do you find inspiration?
Inspiration is found mainly from my team. I have surrounded myself with amazingly talented individuals who show me amazing creativity everyday.
Travel is also very important to me, having lived and worked across Europe, it’s hard not to fall in love with the architecture there, combining this with living in Australia where we are surrounded by amazing picturesque nature everyday – so much around us to draw from!
How has being part of the IDA community supported or influenced your journey?
A great sense of community, and the ability to share with like-minded creatives has really helped me on my design journey in Australia.
